#SmartBreakfast Hackathon 2024: Meet the Winners!
At this year's Smart Protein Forum, students were challenged to create #SmartBreakfast hacks that are quick, tasty, protein-packed, affordable, and sustainable. Out of the 30 entries, the judges awarded winners in the Product Development category for their innovative and impactful solutions to rethinking breakfast.
At this year’s Smart Protein Forum, we invited students to rethink breakfast. We know breakfast is key to fueling our day and typical plant-based Indian breakfasts may not supply the ~11-17 grams to kick start muscle growth, brain power, and keep hunger in check. Busy mornings and carb-heavy options often get in the way.
So, we asked students to create a #SmartBreakfast hack that’s:
Convenient: Quick and easy to make.
Tasty: Sweet or savory.
Protein-packed: 13-17g per serving.
Affordable: Using everyday ingredients.
Sustainable: Featuring smart proteins.
The Submissions and Winners
Out of 30 entries—with 22 in product development, 5 in process development, and 3 in creative SciComm—the competition was intense. However, after careful deliberation, the judges awarded winners only in the Product Development category, as the other submissions didn’t quite meet the mark.

Here are the winners:
🏆 Winner 1: Hanna Lewicka: Fermentation-Derived Duckweed Protein Powder Breakfast Mix – A game-changing, plant-powered protein mix.
🥈 Winner 2: Varsha Vijay: Choco Protein Bombs – Delicious chocolate treats that pack a powerful protein punch.
Special Mentions:
Nutri-Fuel Khichdi Spheres by Sanskriti Agarwal
Prosat Patty by Manoj S.
Congratulations to all the participants, especially our winners! Your innovative ideas are pushing the boundaries of what a smart breakfast can be.
