B.Sc. (Hons) / B.Sc. (Hons with Research)
Flexible options to explore the lifesciences, food and health futures, conservation practice, and many other areas, and to prepare for a career in research
About the Course
The University of Trans-disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU) is a research university, specialising in transdisciplinary research covering a wide range of areas that include: i) food science, innovation and technology, including food based solutions to Anaemia and malnutrition, among many other conditions; ii) Glucose and Lipid metabolism for Diabetes prevention; iii) Cognitive health and healthy aging; iv) Tackling the problem of Antimicrobial resistance; v) Conservation of medicinal Plants; and Clinical research in collaboration with our attached, NABH-accredited hospital, the Institute of Ayurveda and Integrative Medicine; to name just a few.
We are delighted to offer an advanced pathway for science graduates to deepen their academic knowledge and research capabilities through an additional year of undergraduate education leading to the B.Sc. (Hons) / B.Sc. (Hons with Research) degree. Students pursuing research during this year will be able to gain direct admission to PhD programs, at TDU or any other institution in the country or abroad, without going through a Masters’ degree, as mandated by NEP 2020. Please note that the BSc (Hons) program represents a continuation of your 3-year degree in biological/ life sciences.
Students interested in a Masters degree can choose to stay on for an additional year and gain either a MSc Lifesciences or MSc Food Futures degree, with a choice of specialisations; or opt for a MSc by Research program in one of the many specalisations that are listed on TDU’s website
Students can also opt for a PG Diploma program. This is also a one year program like the BSc (Hons) but it allows students to move away from their biology/ life sciences specialisation and learn a new area which is often a mix of science and social sciences.
Program Structure
Duration: 1 Year
B.Sc. (Hons): Advanced coursework and specialization. Students will take core courses set by the faculty of TDU and also choose electives from the many courses being offered each semester. Students will be assisted to make these choices.
B.Sc. (Hons with Research): Includes a dedicated research component in the second semester amounting to 20 credits. Students can begin their research earlier too, in consultation with their chosen research guides, but the number of credits earned will have to be 20 through courses and 20 through research.
Students who have completed a 3-year B.Sc. degree can enroll in this program and upgrade their qualification to an Honours degree within one year.
Research Opportunity (For B.Sc. Hons with Research)
Students opting for B.Sc. (Hons with Research) will have the opportunity to:
Undertake an independent research project
Work under expert faculty members and with their groups
Build skills in research methodology, data analysis, and scientific writing
Students will be able to choose their research topics, and a curated list of research areas/topics will be made available to students at the start of the academic year.
