Every year on July 1st, India observes National Doctors' Day to pay tribute to the unwavering service, compassion, and commitment of doctors across the country.
A plant taxonomist with over 18 years of research and academic experience, holding an M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Botany with a specialization in cytotaxonomy and the revision of Indian Commelinaceae. Postdoctoral work includes the UGC-Dr. D.S. Kothari Fellowship at Goa University on Indian Grewia species and a Shivaji University fellowship focused on Afro-Indian plant connections. He authored over 75 publications, including books, and completed more than 10 funded research projects through agencies like IAAT, Slovakia, MoEF&CC, and ANRF (SERB). Field and herbarium studies have been conducted at global institutions including the K and BM. With contributions of over 40 new taxa and scientific names from different parts of India—the work blends taxonomy, botanical illustration, and conservation. Teaching roles have included Shivaji University and Fergusson College, where as research collaborations involving Godrej and APT Research Foundation, and Pharmanza Herbal, Gujarat, current interests include the legacy of N.A. Dalzell and Western India's plant diversity, revisionary studies on Salacia, Rhamnus and Berberis. A member of IUCN-SSC Western Ghats Plant Specialist Group, BNHS, IBS and IAAT, distinguished fellow of Linnaean Society, and IAAT.
