Dr. M.S.Valiathan epitomises the extraordinary excellence of a scientific mind dedicated to life long learning. While he is nationally and internationally known for his achievement and innovations in modern surgery, related to cardiac health,  Dr Valiathan has been contributing to the modernization of Ayurveda for the last two decades. He published critical redactions in English of the three foundational texts of Ayurveda viz.,  Legacy of Caraka, Legacy of Suśruta and Legacy of Vāgbhaṭa. He conceived and promoted advanced biological research on Ayurveda, with the support of the Department of Scienceand Technology Government of India, that is contributing to innovation in health sciences in the country, with potential to make original contributions to global health.     

This D.Litt is in recognition of his innovative contribution, to seeding a new cross-cultural, trans-disciplinary field coined by him as Ayurveda-Biology.

The field of Ayurveda- Biology, breaks cultural silos of knowledge and combines the systemic and molecular understanding of biological change, embodied in Ayurveda and modern biology.

The Trans Disciplinary University recognises Dr Valiathan as the father of Ayurveda -Biology
