A naturalist turned agribusiness expert promoting green farmer producer companies
Botanist with PhD in forest ecology & field taxonomy in Western Ghats mountains across India’s west coast, with 3 decades experience in ecosystem & livelihoods in survey, conservation, organic & herbal plantations, agribusiness including, export, CSR (corporate social responsibility) projects of Dabur, Himalaya Drugs, Emami, Natural Remedies etc. He directed Gram Mooligai co. Ltd. (GMLC), Madurai & Jabalpur to win national biodiversity award, 2016. It’s a farmer’ producer company (FPC) set up by FRLHT & coordinated by its partner NGO CCD, Madurai and owned by rural women groups. He coordinated the initial people’s biodiversity registers (PBR) with FRLHT & IISc collaboration & did advocacy to include it in the Indian biological diversity act, 2002 as traditional community knowledge proof and benefit sharing tool. An expert in intellectual property rights (IPR) he visited 12 countries, has 70 scientific publications with 1,250 citations & completed 20 research projects for the United Nations.
