Expert in paleoecology and environmental archeology working on 'Human-Vegetation-Fire-Climate relationships' in the past, primarily in southern Indian forests of the Nilgiris and the Western Ghats. I specialize in studying environments of the past using a wide variety of techniques such as sedimentary ancient DNA, stable isotopes, biomarkers, charcoal and pollen in wetland archives.
P. Ramya Bala a graduate of the Interdisciplinary PhD program of the Indian Institute of Science jointly hosted by the Centres for Earth and Ecological Sciences. I am an expert in paleoecology, working on 'Human-Vegetation-Fire-Climate interactions in the Holocene' primarily in southern Indian forests. I specialize in studying environments of the past using a wide variety of techniques such as sedimentary ancient DNA, stable isotopes, biomarkers, charcoal and pollen in wetland archives. I have recently started integrating fire scar data with paleo-data. Ongoing projects in my group focus on the Nilgiris and the Western Ghats. I also have experience in Environmental Archeology and am a Research Partner on the Nilgiris Archeological Project. I have in the past also worked on the geochemistry of extreme micro-ecosystems in the glaciers of the Pyrenees.
