Associate Director and Trustee at Dakshin Foundation, and Trustee of the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust. Interested in research at the interface of ecology, environmental history and anthropology.
Meera coordinates research activities, academic programmes and institutional development of the Andaman Nicobar Environment Team (ANET), Dakshin Foundation's field station as well as research and education centre in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Her research focuses on issues related to ecology, conservation science and environmental history. Her recent work has been on incorporating insights from multiple disciplines to understand the dynamics of conflict related to large free-ranging vertebrates such as elephants, wild pigs and saltwater crocodiles. Meera's current work also focuses on human-animal relationships and the histories of hunting, especially the evolutionary significance of big-game hunting. Her geographies of interest include the Western Ghats, the trans-Himalaya and the Western Himalaya, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
