M S Chaitra

Prof. M.S. Chaitra is a social scientist keen on studying Indian culture through trans-disciplinary approaches. Currently serving as Associate Professor at TDU, his academic journey uniquely bridges scientific rigor with reflections from Indian intellectual traditions. His work employs the framework called the "Comparative Science of Cultures," which he uses to re-conceptualize Indian intellectual traditions. His scholarly work critically examines the enduring impact of colonialism on contemporary Indian life, drawing upon textual analysis and archival sources to reconstruct the multifaceted nature of Indian culture across diverse domains. His work also involves more profound engagement with Sanskrit and other Indian intellectual traditions as well as engagement with contemporary local traditions (loka-paramparā). He also serves as Director and Senior Fellow at the Foundation for the Study of Indian Culture (FSIC), a division of the Saṃhati Foundation, Bengaluru.

Prof. M.S. Chaitra a social scientist interested in the study of cultures, especially Indian culture. His early career training was in zoology and molecular genetics, and Prof. M.S. Chaitra worked on behavioural biology, evolutionary biology, ecological sciences, and conservation biology for more than a decade. For the past decade and a half, his research has focused on the study of Indian culture through a trans disciplinary approach, wherein my questions focus on the impact of colonialism on Indian culture. In this process, his work has spanned domains ranging from anthropology, sociology, and political science to education, literature, and beyond. Prof. M.S. Chaitra work with a team of young scholars who collaborate with me in this research.
