Dr. M.R. Vasudevan Namboothiri, eminent Ayurvedic scholar and institution builder, was awarded the D.Litt by TDU in 2026 for his transformative contributions to medical education, clinical research, and global advocacy of Ayurveda.

Dr. M.R. Vasudevan Namboothiri is a titan of Ayurvedic science whose career reflects a rare synthesis of academic brilliance and social conscience. As the former Director of Ayurveda Medical Education, Kerala, he elevated state institutions to national Centers of Excellence and shaped the future of the discipline through his leadership in the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) and Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS)
He has mentored over 60 post-graduate scholars and published ground-breaking research on Parkinson’s and integrative hepatology.
Represented India across 13 countries, he has been a key figure in establishing Ayurveda as a credible global health system, from Europe to North America.
He has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to society, he has provided free medical consultations every month for 45 years and led critical medical relief during the Tsunami and viral epidemics.
In recognition of his transformative leadership in medical education, pioneering clinical research, and four decades of selfless humanitarian service, we proudly confer upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature (D.Litt.).
