A multidisciplinary scientist with expertise in phytochemistry, nanotechnology, cancer cell culture, and Ayurveda-based drug development, recognized for her innovative research on biomimetic nanozymes and translational healthcare solutions.
Deepa Mundekkad a scientist and biotech entrepreneur dedicated to converting research into practical healthcare innovations. My passion lies in integrating traditional medicine with advanced biotechnology to develop impactful solutions for global health challenges.
Dr. Deepa Mundekkad holds a graduate degree in Botany from the University of Calicut, Kerala, and Post-graduate and MPhil degrees in Life Sciences from Avinashilingam Institute, Coimbatore. She earned her PhD in lectin purification from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT, Vellore). After leading a DST-funded project as Scientist (Principal Investigator) at VIT, Vellore, she also served as Project Director at Nehru Arts and Science College, Coimbatore,
Her pioneering work on biomimetic nanozymes from Punica granatum fruit peel led to the design of nanoparticles functioning as (1) enzyme-mimicking nanozymes and (2) nanocatalysts for dye removal. She is an expert in phytochemistry, chromatography (IMAC), mammalian cancer cell culture, and nanoparticle synthesis/characterization.
As part of Ayurveda-focused innovation, Dr. Mundekkad has developed patentable formulations for diabetes, burn wound healing, joint/muscle pain, and migraine, currently at TRL 3–4 and advancing toward clinical trials and commercialization. She has built strong international collaborations to expand research and publications.
Dr. Mundekkad is a reviewer for leading international journals in Ayurveda, Nanotechnology, and Cancer, and was recently appointed Editor of Frontiers in Nanotechnology (Impact Factor 5.8) to spearhead themed research topics. Her growing citations reflect her dedication to impactful science.
