Akhila George is a marine biologist trained in Zoology and Marine Biology, with a strong interest in coastal and marine socio-ecological systems. Her work focuses on understanding the connections between people, marine ecosystems, and coastal livelihoods. Currently, her research explores coastal commons, fisher knowledge systems, and the relationships between coastal communities and marine environments. Through participatory and community-based approaches, she documents traditional ecological knowledge and its role in supporting coastal ecosystems and livelihoods. Her work brings together ecology, community knowledge, and conservation, highlighting the importance of local perspectives in understanding environmental change.
