Congratulations to Dr N. Punniamurthy on being conferred the Padma Shri 2026!
Jan 27, 2026
The University of Trans-Disciplinary Health Sciences and Technology (TDU) is proud to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Dr Natesan Punniamurthy, Emeritus Professor at TDU (Ethno-Veterinary Science & Practice), on receiving one of India’s highest civilian honours.
Dr Punniamurthy has been deeply associated with TDU and FRLHT for many years, playing a pioneering role in mainstreaming Ethno-Veterinary Medicine (EVM) into education, research, and rural practice. His work bridges traditional knowledge systems with modern science to create affordable, sustainable, and farmer-led solutions in livestock healthcare.
At TDU, his contributions have been central to:
• Documentation and validation of Ethno-veterinary practices
• Training veterinarians in herbal and antibiotic-free livestock care
• Reducing drug residues in milk, meat, and eggs
• Strengthening community-based, primary animal healthcare systems
From developing herbal remedies for major livestock diseases to building national and international capacity in EVM, Dr. Punniamurthy’s life work reflects the very spirit of TDU’s transdisciplinary vision - connecting tradition, science, and society.
We are honoured to walk this journey with him and celebrate his extraordinary service to rural communities, veterinary science, and India’s medical heritage.
Heartfelt congratulations, Dr Punniamurthy!
Your legacy continues to inspire TDU and the wider world.
