Introduction to Arboriculture and Urban Tree Management
Including Urban Planting, Pruning and Assessments
Introduction
Trees make cities easier to live in. They cool streets and buildings, improve air quality and support health and concentration. Yet in India, urban trees are often planted without enough rooting space, pruned in ways that shorten their lives, and inspected only after something fails.
This course introduces the principles and practice of urban tree management: planning and establishing new plantings, pruning correctly, and assessing the condition and risk of existing trees. It complements the health and wellbeing courses already offered at TDU. The focus on urban settings is deliberate. When people can see the benefits of trees in their own surroundings, they are more likely to value and protect trees in more remote places too.
The course is taught by Island Lescure, a consulting arborist with more than 20 years’ experience.
