The Protein Problem – A SIFF-TDU Initiative
Job Summary
Join a five-year funded interdisciplinary initiative to innovate sustainable and affordable protein solutions impacting children, vulnerable populations, older adults, and environmental sustainability. The role involves research, teaching, mentoring, industry engagement, and capacity building within TDU's Protein Problem initiative.
Project Nature (Permanent / Temporary)
Interdisciplinary research and development focused on four areas:
Mid-Day Meals protein solutions
Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTFs)
Protein solutions for healthy ageing
Meat analogues as sustainable animal protein alternatives
Work spans the entire innovation pipeline: science, formulation, product development, packaging, regulatory compliance, scale-up, market translation.
Job Specification
Qualification
Candidates from Chemical Engineering, Bioprocess Engineering, Food Science & Technology, Food Engineering, Biotechnology, Materials Science, or equivalent scientific and engineering backgrounds
Experience
Early-career researchers with strong scientific and engineering foundations. Experience in product development, protein functionality, food processing, extrusion, process design, scale-up, formulation, shelf life, packaging, nutritional labelling, regulatory requirements, technology transfer, industry engagement, or commercialization is valuable.
Skills
Translational research in protein innovation
Protein extraction, formulation, product development, and process scale-up
Knowledge of food science, product prototyping, sensory systems, nutritional quality
Collaboration, entrepreneurship, and motivation for real-world impact
Teaching and mentoring skills
Building industry and NGO partnerships
Job Responsibilities
Lead and conduct translational protein research
Develop products/processes from concept to pilot-scale validation
Guide PhD students and mentor researchers
Execute industry-sponsored projects
Teach MSc courses in protein science and related fields
Deliver workshops/training for industry, entrepreneurs, NGOs, self-help groups
Build partnerships with industry, government, NGOs, foundations
Contribute to proposals and funding applications
Help sustain the program beyond initial funding
Project Duration
Five years, with initial appointment of one year renewable annually (up to five years)
Remuneration
₹1.5 lakh/month and above, commensurate with experience and expertise
PhD student support and access to interdisciplinary research infrastructure included
