TDU held its second Convocation at the University campus on 12th March 2024 from 4pm onwards. Prof. P Balaram, Padma Bhushan recipient, and Emeritus Professor at National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) was the Chief Guest at the event. Her Highness Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Queen of the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom, and Shri Rajeev Sethi, founder-chairman of Asian Heritage Foundation were the Guests of Honour.
Prof. Darshan Shankar, Vice-Chancellor, TDU welcomed the guests and offered introductory remarks. And the TDU Annual Report was shared by Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Dean (Research & Outreach) and Dr. Leena Wadia, Dean (Academics and Outreach).
Honorary Doctor of Literature degrees: TDU awarded honorary degrees, as Doctor of Literature (D. Litt), to four eminent personalities.
Mr. Subramanian Ramadorai, in recognition of his transformative leadership, far-reaching impact, unparalleled contributions and unwavering commitment to societal enrichment through IT innovation, philanthropy, and cultural preservation.
Dr. Ashok DB Vaidya, in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the realms of Clinical Pharmacology, Ayurvedic Research, and advancement of Indian Knowledge Systems through innovative approaches in drug discovery and development, as well as his mentorship, leadership, and transformative impact on multiple domains of medical science and academia.
Dr. Patrick Whitney, in recognition of his extraordinary leadership, pioneering research, exceptional contributions and enduring impact on design's convergence with public health and societal advancement and his profound legacy.
Dr. Sudha Gopalakrishnan, in recognition of her exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment and profound contributions to safeguarding and promoting India's and global rich cultural heritage and legacy.
Doctorate of Philosophy degrees: TDU awarded 18 PhD degrees at the convocation.
Master of Science, Life Sciences (Ayurveda Biology): The first batch of TDU's flagship MSc course in Life Sciences, with a specialization in Ayurveda Biology, received their degrees at the convocation.
Master of Science, Environmental Sciences (Conservation Practice):Ā The first batch of TDU's course in Environmental Sciences, a course in collaboration with the Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and the Environment (ATREE), with a specialization in Conservation Practice, received their degrees at the convocation.
Master of Science by Research: Three self-driven students seeking a domain specific education that allows them considerable flexibility to follow their passion received their MSc by Research degrees at the convocation.
TDU also recognized individuals receiving their skill based diplomas that seek to nurture traditional practices that otherwise would not receive formal certification. These were recipients of Diploma in Hastyadi Ayurveda Visharada, and the Varmam Therapist Diploma. Two students also collected their PG Diploma in Ayurveda Biology, and Diploma in Food Science Technology and Innovation respectively.
Prof. P Balaram, Chief Guest, delivered the Convocation Address, and Dr. Atul Kumar Gupta, COO & Registrar, TDU delivered the Vote of Thanks.
