TDU & KEW Discussion Workshop

TDU and KEW have collaborated on a British Academy supported project “Reconciling Medical Knowledge Communities: Learning from the History of Indian Plant Drugs”.  The TDU team has critically reviewed 5000 botanicals and ethno-graphic data archived in KEW, UK collected by the East India Company in the 19th – 20th century.  We have studied extant knowledge of their properties and uses in India during the colonial times and clinical and industrial use to date.

As part of the project, TDU and KEW jointly will be organizing discussion workshop on 19th July 2023 at TDU, Bengaluru. The workshop will discuss alongside taxonomic issues, the extant knowledge of their properties and uses in India during the colonial times and clinical and industrial use to date.  It will analyze the reasons for the historical differences in the understanding of knowledge communities about medicinal botanicals as well as their contemporary potential in India and the UK.
